When you think of art, do you just think of paintings on a wall? Do you have visions of watercolors, oils, pallet paintings? That what I usually think of when I hear the words Art Gallery.

I can tell you that here in Sedona, art is far more than just pretty paintings. If you are lucky enough to be in Sedona on the first friday of any month, take a trip on the art loop and expose yourself to the unbelievable talent that showcases their incredible works in the various galleries throughout Sedona.

In these galleries you will see creativity beyond imagination. There is glass work sculpture, bowls, lampshades, and table top pieces. You will find jewelry, furniture, pottery, and mixed media. From the very small to the extremely large, there is something to delight everyone. You will also see some amazing watercolors, oils, photography, and mixed media along the way, but you won’t be disappointed.

Art is certainly subjective and truly in the eye of the beholder. Living in an area where there is so much talent for creativity and a desire to share beauty in one’ s unique way is an experience.

On 1st Friday, you jump about the Sedona Trolley which does a continual loop around Sedona stopping at each location approximately every 15 minutes. Once aboard, Angelo Passerelli is on hand to give some descriptions of each destination and any artist that is featured. This information is also printed and Angelo is happy to provide you with a copy. The galleries typically offer wine, cheese and some goodies to nibble on.

This is a FREE event and is sponsored by the Sedona Gallery Association. You may get more information on SGA by visiting their website at http://www.sedonagalleryassociation.com/index.htm

See you on board the trolley!

Good Morning Everyone!

Well I can confirm that the rains have definetly paid off as far as the wild flowers go here in Sedona. I was hiking on Chimney Rock trail and saw a variety of beautiful wild flowers that sadly last a short time. I saw a small cactus tucked away under a dead Juniper log that had an awesome purple/pink flower growing on it. There are Indian Paintbrush scattered about. There are flowers that look like daisies, some tall pink flowers, and little flowers I call buttercups, although that is not what they are! I will have to invest in a wild flower book so I can report what I am seeing, but I can say it was a hike filled with beautiful unexpected treasures! I am sure many other trails in the Red Rocks are filled with similar beauty this time of year.

It is amazing to me what the desert has to offer in the spring given the right conditions. In a climate where there is very little water, the earth still has the capacity to grow wonderful and intersting plants for humans to enjoy. These plants are precious and I am grateful that I have an opportunity to go out to explore and enjoy them during their short time of bloom. It’s spring! It’s beautiful outside…go ahead, take some time to smell the flowers!!

Lori

Hello everyone! It has been an unusual spring for us here in Sedona AZ. We have had a lot of cloudy weather and lots of rain in January and February, which will undoubtedly bring us a rainbow of color in wild flowers which have not been seen in a few years.

Rain is a tough subject in Sedona. The tourists feel it ruins a planned vacation, the locals, well we go out and do the cranberry dance of joy!! We love the rain and the thunderstorms here. In a state where so many aquafirs are dried up, and there is so little water in our creeks, we’ll take every drop to be had. In the Red Rocks it can be very beautiful. You have the opportunity to see waterfalls shooting off some of the formations, and the wetness of the rocks certainly does change the color of rocks. But water gives forth life, it nurtures and blesses the land we live in to help it grow and become beautiful. So the next time you visit Sedona and it rains, don’t give into the idea that it is ruining your vacation, give in to the idea that you are a part of something special. You were here when the land was being nurtured, and so will you!!
